GALAX—Chapters, located in downtown Galax, will commemorate 30 years in businesses with a store party 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 13. In addition to the weekend’s free wine tasting, cupcakes, snacks, discounts, prizes and more will be offered.

For three decades, Chapters has promoted the characteristics that make Galax so special:  friendliness, service, a sense of community and a strong commitment to the area’s heritage. That commitment is particularly evident as the store has expanded its offerings over the years to meet customers’ requests and needs, said owner Sharon Ritchie. The store’s most recent additions include online audiobook sales and a Frequent Buyers Club where patrons earn reward dollars every time they shop.

Chapters is not only the area’s only independent bookstore, it’s also a boutique and wine shop, offering a unique selection of clothing, jewelry, wine and beer, specialty foods, and adult and children’s gifts. Gift-wrapping is free with any purchase.

Filled with history and beauty, the 1904 building (located at the corner of Main and Grayson streets) has previously served as a department store, a ladies’ clothing shop, and a consignment shop. Renovations were completed on the historic building in 2006. The building boasts original hardwood floors and tin ceilings.

Chapters has earned national recognition over the years: a number of staff members received bookseller awards from James Patterson; the store was featured in Publishers Weekly; and it has earned awards from the American Booksellers Association, the Children’s Book Council, and the National Main Street program.

The store remains a gathering place for book lovers, wine lovers, storytellers and friends.

Chapters is located at 101 E. Grayson St. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
