Join Chapters for 13th annual Independent Bookstore Day Celebration

Chapters in downtown Galax will offer a variety of in-store specials and promotions during the 13th annual Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday, April 25.

Independent Bookstore Day was established in 2013 to promote, celebrate, and highlight the value of the independent bookstore community. The celebration is observed on the last Saturday of April. This year, more than 1,600 stores will participate across the country.

Independent Bookstore Day is organized by the American Booksellers Association, a national not-for-profit trade organization, that works with booksellers and industry partners to ensure the success and profitability of independently owned book retailers, and to assist in expanding the book community.

Chapters, located at 101 E. Grayson St. in downtown Galax, is the area’s only independent bookstore. It’s also a boutique and wine shop, offering a unique selection of clothing, jewelry, wine and beer, specialty foods, and adult and children’s gifts.

Staff will kick off the celebration with a creative and fun-filled Spirit Week beginning April 20. Visit Chapters on Facebook and Instagram for daily themes, updates, giveaways, and more.

The weeklong celebration will culminate with a book bash on Saturday featuring a food and wine tasting, drawings, giveaways, discounts, and more.

"Independent Bookstore Day is one of our favorite days of the year," owner Sharon Ritchie said. "We not only get to celebrate our love for books but also show appreciation to our booksellers and customers with fun activities. Independent Bookstore Day is a true community celebration."

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
